CVE-2023-48795 42 Apache, Apple, Asyncssh Project and 39 more 68 Sshd, Sshj, Macos and 65 more 2024-01-11 N/A 5.9 MEDIUM
The SSH transport protocol with certain OpenSSH extensions, found in OpenSSH before 9.6 and other products, allows remote attackers to bypass integrity checks such that some packets are omitted (from the extension negotiation message), and a client and server may consequently end up with a connection for which some security features have been downgraded or disabled, aka a Terrapin attack. This occurs because the SSH Binary Packet Protocol (BPP), implemented by these extensions, mishandles the handshake phase and mishandles use of sequence numbers. For example, there is an effective attack against SSH's use of ChaCha20-Poly1305 (and CBC with Encrypt-then-MAC). The bypass occurs in chacha20-poly1305@openssh.com and (if CBC is used) the -etm@openssh.com MAC algorithms. This also affects Maverick Synergy Java SSH API before 3.1.0-SNAPSHOT, Dropbear through 2022.83, Ssh before 5.1.1 in Erlang/OTP, PuTTY before 0.80, AsyncSSH before 2.14.2, golang.org/x/crypto before 0.17.0, libssh before 0.10.6, libssh2 through 1.11.0, Thorn Tech SFTP Gateway before 3.4.6, Tera Term before 5.1, Paramiko before 3.4.0, jsch before 0.2.15, SFTPGo before 2.5.6, Netgate pfSense Plus through 23.09.1, Netgate pfSense CE through 2.7.2, HPN-SSH through 18.2.0, ProFTPD before 1.3.8b (and before 1.3.9rc2), ORYX CycloneSSH before 2.3.4, NetSarang XShell 7 before Build 0144, CrushFTP before 10.6.0, ConnectBot SSH library before 2.2.22, Apache MINA sshd through 2.11.0, sshj through 0.37.0, TinySSH through 20230101, trilead-ssh2 6401, LANCOM LCOS and LANconfig, FileZilla before 3.66.4, Nova before 11.8, PKIX-SSH before 14.4, SecureCRT before 9.4.3, Transmit5 before 5.10.4, Win32-OpenSSH before 9.5.0.0p1-Beta, WinSCP before 6.2.2, Bitvise SSH Server before 9.32, Bitvise SSH Client before 9.33, KiTTY through 0.76.1.13, the net-ssh gem 7.2.0 for Ruby, the mscdex ssh2 module before 1.15.0 for Node.js, the thrussh library before 0.35.1 for Rust, and the Russh crate before 0.40.2 for Rust.
CVE-2023-51384 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2024-01-05 N/A 5.5 MEDIUM
In ssh-agent in OpenSSH before 9.6, certain destination constraints can be incompletely applied. When destination constraints are specified during addition of PKCS#11-hosted private keys, these constraints are only applied to the first key, even if a PKCS#11 token returns multiple keys.
CVE-2023-51385 2 Debian, Openbsd 2 Debian Linux, Openssh 2024-01-05 N/A 6.5 MEDIUM
In ssh in OpenSSH before 9.6, OS command injection might occur if a user name or host name has shell metacharacters, and this name is referenced by an expansion token in certain situations. For example, an untrusted Git repository can have a submodule with shell metacharacters in a user name or host name.
CVE-2021-41617 5 Fedoraproject, Netapp, Openbsd and 2 more 14 Fedora, Active Iq Unified Manager, Aff 500f and 11 more 2023-12-26 4.4 MEDIUM 7.0 HIGH
sshd in OpenSSH 6.2 through 8.x before 8.8, when certain non-default configurations are used, allows privilege escalation because supplemental groups are not initialized as expected. Helper programs for AuthorizedKeysCommand and AuthorizedPrincipalsCommand may run with privileges associated with group memberships of the sshd process, if the configuration specifies running the command as a different user.
CVE-2023-38408 2 Fedoraproject, Openbsd 2 Fedora, Openssh 2023-12-22 N/A 9.8 CRITICAL
The PKCS#11 feature in ssh-agent in OpenSSH before 9.3p2 has an insufficiently trustworthy search path, leading to remote code execution if an agent is forwarded to an attacker-controlled system. (Code in /usr/lib is not necessarily safe for loading into ssh-agent.) NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2016-10009.
CVE-2023-28531 2 Netapp, Openbsd 4 Brocade Fabric Operating System, Hci Bootstrap Os, Solidfire Element Os and 1 more 2023-12-22 N/A 9.8 CRITICAL
ssh-add in OpenSSH before 9.3 adds smartcard keys to ssh-agent without the intended per-hop destination constraints. The earliest affected version is 8.9.
CVE-2021-36368 2 Debian, Openbsd 2 Debian Linux, Openssh 2022-07-01 2.6 LOW 3.7 LOW
** DISPUTED ** An issue was discovered in OpenSSH before 8.9. If a client is using public-key authentication with agent forwarding but without -oLogLevel=verbose, and an attacker has silently modified the server to support the None authentication option, then the user cannot determine whether FIDO authentication is going to confirm that the user wishes to connect to that server, or that the user wishes to allow that server to connect to a different server on the user's behalf. NOTE: the vendor's position is "this is not an authentication bypass, since nothing is being bypassed."
CVE-2021-28041 4 Fedoraproject, Netapp, Openbsd and 1 more 11 Fedora, Cloud Backup, Hci Compute Node and 8 more 2022-05-20 4.6 MEDIUM 7.1 HIGH
ssh-agent in OpenSSH before 8.5 has a double free that may be relevant in a few less-common scenarios, such as unconstrained agent-socket access on a legacy operating system, or the forwarding of an agent to an attacker-controlled host.
CVE-2020-14145 2 Netapp, Openbsd 10 Active Iq Unified Manager, Aff A700s, Aff A700s Firmware and 7 more 2022-04-28 4.3 MEDIUM 5.9 MEDIUM
The client side in OpenSSH 5.7 through 8.4 has an Observable Discrepancy leading to an information leak in the algorithm negotiation. This allows man-in-the-middle attackers to target initial connection attempts (where no host key for the server has been cached by the client). NOTE: some reports state that 8.5 and 8.6 are also affected.
CVE-2016-20012 2 Netapp, Openbsd 5 Clustered Data Ontap, Hci Management Node, Ontap Select Deploy Administration Utility and 2 more 2022-02-24 4.3 MEDIUM 5.3 MEDIUM
** DISPUTED ** OpenSSH through 8.7 allows remote attackers, who have a suspicion that a certain combination of username and public key is known to an SSH server, to test whether this suspicion is correct. This occurs because a challenge is sent only when that combination could be valid for a login session. NOTE: the vendor does not recognize user enumeration as a vulnerability for this product.
CVE-2015-5600 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2021-11-17 8.5 HIGH N/A
The kbdint_next_device function in auth2-chall.c in sshd in OpenSSH through 6.9 does not properly restrict the processing of keyboard-interactive devices within a single connection, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct brute-force attacks or cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via a long and duplicative list in the ssh -oKbdInteractiveDevices option, as demonstrated by a modified client that provides a different password for each pam element on this list.
CVE-2016-10011 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2021-09-14 2.1 LOW 5.5 MEDIUM
authfile.c in sshd in OpenSSH before 7.4 does not properly consider the effects of realloc on buffer contents, which might allow local users to obtain sensitive private-key information by leveraging access to a privilege-separated child process.
CVE-2016-6515 2 Fedoraproject, Openbsd 2 Fedora, Openssh 2021-09-14 7.8 HIGH 7.5 HIGH
The auth_password function in auth-passwd.c in sshd in OpenSSH before 7.3 does not limit password lengths for password authentication, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crypt CPU consumption) via a long string.
CVE-2016-10708 4 Canonical, Debian, Netapp and 1 more 12 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Cloud Backup and 9 more 2021-09-14 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
sshd in OpenSSH before 7.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and daemon crash) via an out-of-sequence NEWKEYS message, as demonstrated by Honggfuzz, related to kex.c and packet.c.
CVE-2019-16905 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2021-07-21 4.4 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
OpenSSH 7.7 through 7.9 and 8.x before 8.1, when compiled with an experimental key type, has a pre-authentication integer overflow if a client or server is configured to use a crafted XMSS key. This leads to memory corruption and local code execution because of an error in the XMSS key parsing algorithm. NOTE: the XMSS implementation is considered experimental in all released OpenSSH versions, and there is no supported way to enable it when building portable OpenSSH.
CVE-2020-15778 3 Broadcom, Netapp, Openbsd 10 Fabric Operating System, A700s, A700s Firmware and 7 more 2021-06-22 6.8 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
** DISPUTED ** scp in OpenSSH through 8.3p1 allows command injection in the scp.c toremote function, as demonstrated by backtick characters in the destination argument. NOTE: the vendor reportedly has stated that they intentionally omit validation of "anomalous argument transfers" because that could "stand a great chance of breaking existing workflows."
CVE-2007-2768 2 Netapp, Openbsd 5 Hci Management Node, Hci Storage Node, Solidfire and 2 more 2021-04-01 4.3 MEDIUM N/A
OpenSSH, when using OPIE (One-Time Passwords in Everything) for PAM, allows remote attackers to determine the existence of certain user accounts, which displays a different response if the user account exists and is configured to use one-time passwords (OTP), a similar issue to CVE-2007-2243.
CVE-2019-6109 5 Canonical, Debian, Netapp and 2 more 7 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Element Software and 4 more 2020-08-24 4.0 MEDIUM 6.8 MEDIUM
An issue was discovered in OpenSSH 7.9. Due to missing character encoding in the progress display, a malicious server (or Man-in-The-Middle attacker) can employ crafted object names to manipulate the client output, e.g., by using ANSI control codes to hide additional files being transferred. This affects refresh_progress_meter() in progressmeter.c.
CVE-2019-6110 3 Netapp, Openbsd, Winscp 5 Element Software, Ontap Select Deploy, Storage Automation Store and 2 more 2020-08-24 4.0 MEDIUM 6.8 MEDIUM
In OpenSSH 7.9, due to accepting and displaying arbitrary stderr output from the server, a malicious server (or Man-in-The-Middle attacker) can manipulate the client output, for example to use ANSI control codes to hide additional files being transferred.
CVE-2018-15473 5 Canonical, Debian, Netapp and 2 more 21 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Aff Baseboard Management Controller and 18 more 2020-08-24 5.0 MEDIUM 5.3 MEDIUM
OpenSSH through 7.7 is prone to a user enumeration vulnerability due to not delaying bailout for an invalid authenticating user until after the packet containing the request has been fully parsed, related to auth2-gss.c, auth2-hostbased.c, and auth2-pubkey.c.
CVE-2018-20685 7 Canonical, Debian, Netapp and 4 more 11 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Cloud Backup and 8 more 2020-08-24 2.6 LOW 5.3 MEDIUM
In OpenSSH 7.9, scp.c in the scp client allows remote SSH servers to bypass intended access restrictions via the filename of . or an empty filename. The impact is modifying the permissions of the target directory on the client side.
CVE-2017-15906 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2020-08-24 5.0 MEDIUM 5.3 MEDIUM
The process_open function in sftp-server.c in OpenSSH before 7.6 does not properly prevent write operations in readonly mode, which allows attackers to create zero-length files.
CVE-2019-6111 5 Canonical, Debian, Openbsd and 2 more 5 Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Openssh and 2 more 2020-08-24 5.8 MEDIUM 5.9 MEDIUM
An issue was discovered in OpenSSH 7.9. Due to the scp implementation being derived from 1983 rcp, the server chooses which files/directories are sent to the client. However, the scp client only performs cursory validation of the object name returned (only directory traversal attacks are prevented). A malicious scp server (or Man-in-The-Middle attacker) can overwrite arbitrary files in the scp client target directory. If recursive operation (-r) is performed, the server can manipulate subdirectories as well (for example, to overwrite the .ssh/authorized_keys file).
CVE-2020-12062 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2020-06-04 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
** DISPUTED ** The scp client in OpenSSH 8.2 incorrectly sends duplicate responses to the server upon a utimes system call failure, which allows a malicious unprivileged user on the remote server to overwrite arbitrary files in the client's download directory by creating a crafted subdirectory anywhere on the remote server. The victim must use the command scp -rp to download a file hierarchy containing, anywhere inside, this crafted subdirectory. NOTE: the vendor points out that "this attack can achieve no more than a hostile peer is already able to achieve within the scp protocol" and "utimes does not fail under normal circumstances."
CVE-2014-1692 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2020-02-04 7.5 HIGH N/A
The hash_buffer function in schnorr.c in OpenSSH through 6.4, when Makefile.inc is modified to enable the J-PAKE protocol, does not initialize certain data structures, which might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or have unspecified other impact via vectors that trigger an error condition.
CVE-2016-0777 5 Apple, Hp, Openbsd and 2 more 7 Mac Os X, Remote Device Access Virtual Customer Access System, Openssh and 4 more 2019-12-27 4.0 MEDIUM 6.5 MEDIUM
The resend_bytes function in roaming_common.c in the client in OpenSSH 5.x, 6.x, and 7.x before 7.1p2 allows remote servers to obtain sensitive information from process memory by requesting transmission of an entire buffer, as demonstrated by reading a private key.
CVE-2016-0778 5 Apple, Hp, Openbsd and 2 more 6 Mac Os X, Virtual Customer Access System, Openssh and 3 more 2019-12-27 4.6 MEDIUM 8.1 HIGH
The (1) roaming_read and (2) roaming_write functions in roaming_common.c in the client in OpenSSH 5.x, 6.x, and 7.x before 7.1p2, when certain proxy and forward options are enabled, do not properly maintain connection file descriptors, which allows remote servers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer overflow) or possibly have unspecified other impact by requesting many forwardings.
CVE-2013-4548 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2019-10-09 6.0 MEDIUM N/A
The mm_newkeys_from_blob function in monitor_wrap.c in sshd in OpenSSH 6.2 and 6.3, when an AES-GCM cipher is used, does not properly initialize memory for a MAC context data structure, which allows remote authenticated users to bypass intended ForceCommand and login-shell restrictions via packet data that provides a crafted callback address.
CVE-2015-6564 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2019-03-26 6.9 MEDIUM N/A
Use-after-free vulnerability in the mm_answer_pam_free_ctx function in monitor.c in sshd in OpenSSH before 7.0 on non-OpenBSD platforms might allow local users to gain privileges by leveraging control of the sshd uid to send an unexpectedly early MONITOR_REQ_PAM_FREE_CTX request.
CVE-2015-6563 2 Apple, Openbsd 2 Mac Os X, Openssh 2019-03-26 1.9 LOW N/A
The monitor component in sshd in OpenSSH before 7.0 on non-OpenBSD platforms accepts extraneous username data in MONITOR_REQ_PAM_INIT_CTX requests, which allows local users to conduct impersonation attacks by leveraging any SSH login access in conjunction with control of the sshd uid to send a crafted MONITOR_REQ_PWNAM request, related to monitor.c and monitor_wrap.c.
CVE-2018-15919 2 Netapp, Openbsd 7 Cloud Backup, Cn1610, Cn1610 Firmware and 4 more 2019-03-07 5.0 MEDIUM 5.3 MEDIUM
Remotely observable behaviour in auth-gss2.c in OpenSSH through 7.8 could be used by remote attackers to detect existence of users on a target system when GSS2 is in use. NOTE: the discoverer states 'We understand that the OpenSSH developers do not want to treat such a username enumeration (or "oracle") as a vulnerability.'
CVE-2016-6210 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2019-02-07 4.3 MEDIUM 5.9 MEDIUM
sshd in OpenSSH before 7.3, when SHA256 or SHA512 are used for user password hashing, uses BLOWFISH hashing on a static password when the username does not exist, which allows remote attackers to enumerate users by leveraging the timing difference between responses when a large password is provided.
CVE-2015-5352 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-24 4.3 MEDIUM N/A
The x11_open_helper function in channels.c in ssh in OpenSSH before 6.9, when ForwardX11Trusted mode is not used, lacks a check of the refusal deadline for X connections, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via a connection outside of the permitted time window.
CVE-2006-0225 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-19 4.6 MEDIUM N/A
scp in OpenSSH 4.2p1 allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands via filenames that contain shell metacharacters or spaces, which are expanded twice.
CVE-2005-2798 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-19 5.0 MEDIUM N/A
sshd in OpenSSH before 4.2, when GSSAPIDelegateCredentials is enabled, allows GSSAPI credentials to be delegated to clients who log in using non-GSSAPI methods, which could cause those credentials to be exposed to untrusted users or hosts.
CVE-2004-2069 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-19 5.0 MEDIUM N/A
sshd.c in OpenSSH 3.6.1p2 and 3.7.1p2 and possibly other versions, when using privilege separation, does not properly signal the non-privileged process when a session has been terminated after exceeding the LoginGraceTime setting, which leaves the connection open and allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (connection consumption).
CVE-2006-5794 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-17 7.5 HIGH N/A
Unspecified vulnerability in the sshd Privilege Separation Monitor in OpenSSH before 4.5 causes weaker verification that authentication has been successful, which might allow attackers to bypass authentication. NOTE: as of 20061108, it is believed that this issue is only exploitable by leveraging vulnerabilities in the unprivileged process, which are not known to exist.
CVE-2006-5229 2 Novell, Openbsd 2 Suse Linux, Openssh 2018-10-17 2.6 LOW N/A
OpenSSH portable 4.1 on SUSE Linux, and possibly other platforms and versions, and possibly under limited configurations, allows remote attackers to determine valid usernames via timing discrepancies in which responses take longer for valid usernames than invalid ones, as demonstrated by sshtime. NOTE: as of 20061014, it appears that this issue is dependent on the use of manually-set passwords that causes delays when processing /etc/shadow due to an increased number of rounds.
CVE-2006-5052 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-17 5.0 MEDIUM N/A
Unspecified vulnerability in portable OpenSSH before 4.4, when running on some platforms, allows remote attackers to determine the validity of usernames via unknown vectors involving a GSSAPI "authentication abort."
CVE-2006-4924 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-17 7.8 HIGH N/A
sshd in OpenSSH before 4.4, when using the version 1 SSH protocol, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via an SSH packet that contains duplicate blocks, which is not properly handled by the CRC compensation attack detector.
CVE-2006-4925 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-17 5.0 MEDIUM N/A
packet.c in ssh in OpenSSH allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) by sending an invalid protocol sequence with USERAUTH_SUCCESS before NEWKEYS, which causes newkeys[mode] to be NULL.
CVE-2007-4752 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-15 7.5 HIGH N/A
ssh in OpenSSH before 4.7 does not properly handle when an untrusted cookie cannot be created and uses a trusted X11 cookie instead, which allows attackers to violate intended policy and gain privileges by causing an X client to be treated as trusted.
CVE-2007-4654 3 Cisco, Openbsd, Teamf1 4 Content Services Switch 11000, Webns, Openssh and 1 more 2018-10-15 5.0 MEDIUM N/A
Unspecified vulnerability in SSHield 1.6.1 with OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 on Cisco WebNS 8.20.0.1 on Cisco Content Services Switch (CSS) series 11000 devices allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (connection slot exhaustion and device crash) via a series of large packets designed to exploit the SSH CRC32 attack detection overflow (CVE-2001-0144), possibly a related issue to CVE-2002-1024.
CVE-2008-5161 2 Openbsd, Ssh 5 Openssh, Tectia Client, Tectia Connector and 2 more 2018-10-11 2.6 LOW N/A

OpenSSH 4.4 up to versions before 4.9 allows remote authenticated users to bypass the sshd_config ForceCommand directive by modifying the .ssh/rc session file.
CVE-2008-1483 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-10-11 6.9 MEDIUM N/A
OpenSSH 4.3p2, and probably other versions, allows local users to hijack forwarded X connections by causing ssh to set DISPLAY to :10, even when another process is listening on the associated port, as demonstrated by opening TCP port 6010 (IPv4) and sniffing a cookie sent by Emacs.
CVE-2016-8858 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-09-19 7.8 HIGH 7.5 HIGH
** DISPUTED ** The kex_input_kexinit function in kex.c in OpenSSH 6.x and 7.x through 7.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by sending many duplicate KEXINIT requests. NOTE: a third party reports that "OpenSSH upstream does not consider this as a security issue."
CVE-2016-10009 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-09-11 7.5 HIGH 7.3 HIGH
Untrusted search path vulnerability in ssh-agent.c in ssh-agent in OpenSSH before 7.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary local PKCS#11 modules by leveraging control over a forwarded agent-socket.
CVE-2016-1908 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-09-11 7.5 HIGH 9.8 CRITICAL
The client in OpenSSH before 7.2 mishandles failed cookie generation for untrusted X11 forwarding and relies on the local X11 server for access-control decisions, which allows remote X11 clients to trigger a fallback and obtain trusted X11 forwarding privileges by leveraging configuration issues on this X11 server, as demonstrated by lack of the SECURITY extension on this X11 server.
CVE-2016-10012 1 Openbsd 1 Openssh 2018-09-11 7.2 HIGH 7.8 HIGH
The shared memory manager (associated with pre-authentication compression) in sshd in OpenSSH before 7.4 does not ensure that a bounds check is enforced by all compilers, which might allows local users to gain privileges by leveraging access to a sandboxed privilege-separation process, related to the m_zback and m_zlib data structures.
